Matt Freeman

Chief Executive officer

Matt is responsible for the day to day management, strategy and growth of CyTAL’s business operations.

Matt has held several technical consultancy and senior management roles over the years and has worked with a wide range of critical infrastructure companies, product vendors and investors. 

Matt has been involved in cyber security for around ten years and recently co-founded CyTAL  in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Chris Storer

Chief Technology Officer

Chris is our CTO and product owner for ProtoCrawler. Chris works closely with our software customers to ensure their needs are met and to ensure our product roadmap remains on point.

Chris has worked in cybersecurity for ten years, with a focus on product testing and evaluation. During this time, he has worked with industry and government to define security requirements; and with vendors to design and perform security tests.

Chris has worked on a broad spectrum of products from smartcards to large scale enterprise applications and appliances. Chris has also worked as part of several accredited schemes, including Common Criteria and Commercial Product Assurance.

David Spalding

Chief Commercial Offcer

David is responsible for CyTAL’s commercial strategy and business development activities.  His background is in embedded systems engineering with over 25 years’ experience in the energy and telecommunication sectors.  Throughout his career David has worked with cutting-edge companies and technologies, delivering a number of key innovations in the smart energy industry for large scale rollout. 

Most recently, David oversaw DNV GL’s smart energy advisory and product evaluation business in the UK, working with central government and energy retailers, asset managers, networks and product manufacturers to help deliver the UK Smart Meter Implementation Programme.  Prior to DNV GL, David spent 10 years with a major European meter manufacturer as technical director responsible for UK Smart Metering product design, development and deployment.

Non-Executive Board

Tim de Vere Green

Non-Executive Director (Origin Capital)

Tim established Origin’s investment activities in 2007. Previously he worked in management consultancy (with Arthur Andersen) and investment banking (with Barclays de Zoete Wedd).

Tim has completed over 50 early-stage capital transactions, mainly in the technology sector, and has extensive first-hand experience of the strategic, commercial and operational issues facing entrepreneurs as they seek to grow their businesses.

Tim serves on the boards of several Origin investees. He holds a first-class degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol and an MA in Documentary Film from Goldsmiths College (London University). He is an active member and board director of the Cambridge Angels investor group.

Esben Rusas

Non-Executive Director (DNV)

Esben Rusås holds a Master’s degree in finance from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, and has also studied Entrepreneurship at the National University of Singapore. Over recent years, Esben has had significant exposure to critical infrastructure and associated software industries. Esben currently works as Commercial and Finance Director in DNV Accelerator.

Whilst not involved in the day to day management of CyTAL, Esben represents the interests of DNV as a shareholder. He also provides independent insight to the Executive team, contributing to policy making and strategic planning activities.
